Fort Smith Regional Air Show
The 188th Fighter Wing has announced the dates and the headliners for the 2008 Fort Smith Regional Air Show.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Golden Knights will perform on Saturday and Sunday.
The 188th is working on securing additional military demonstration teams, and the 188th FW / Fort Chaffee Community Council's Air Show Committee is selling sponsorships, chalets, and display ads for the official program guide. Funds generated from sales will secure top-notch civilian acts to round out the full schedule.
Two years ago, nearly 250,000 attended the regional air show here in Fort Smith, shattering previous attendance records.
The upcoming event falls on Armed Forces Day (May 17). Fort Smith will serve as representatives of our nation's heartland -- in showing how much we appreciate our men and women in uniform, and their families.

How do I get tickets for the air show?
The Air Show is always free!!!!
The Air Show is free admission to everyone. Bring a fold-able lawn chair, park at any of the free parking locations, and be shuttled to the air show. Check out www.fortsmithairshow.org for a list of parking locations. Google maps are linked to each location so you can easily find the location that best suits you.
Why not have some of the old ventage By-Wing plane on hand to look at. I love um and think their realy neat. Thank's Seagull
I was at the 2006 Air Show and really enjoyed it, it was in the day time, with this one being in the evening it should be even better. Is the 8:00 P.M. when it starts on the first day.
The Friday night event is for guests of the commander and community sponsors and partners who helped put the air show together.
However, folks in the vicinity will probably see a pretty hectic "bombing" run on the runway. Tora Tora Tora fights our hometown A-10 Thunderbolts. Plus, there's a fireworks show toward the end of the evening.
AND if the weather works right, those in the vicinity of the airport Thursday afternoon may see the Thunderbirds fly into Fort Smith. I don't have a schedule, but I'd guess sometime between 2 and 3 tomorrow.
Friday they'll do a dress rehearsal -- again, most likely between 2 and 3pm.
The times are just a guess. Hunting these aircraft requires a bit of patience...
do you think there is any chance they could have a flying corsair there? and would they be open to someone requesting they book one? thanks.
i'm not going if there are any protoss
Does anyone have any more information on start time on both days. I know the post says 8:00 pm, but is that right??
Gates are set to open just after 8 Saturday and Sunday MORNING -- between 8 and 8:30 is a pretty safe timeframe. That's also when the buses are set to run from each offsite location.
Understand why it's difficult to post a specific "schedule" at an event like this. Weather, maintenance, personnel, other factors all play into pulling off a successful air show.
We as air show fans are gonna get there as early as possible and stay until we can't hear ourselves think anymore so the organizers don't want to establish expectations as to exactly when a specific act will perform. They want us to come in and have a WONDERFUL time and let them worry about what got bumped and why. Thunderbirds are always last -- they typically fly from 2 to 3 or so. Again, these times are BALLPARK estimates. If they fly at 1 and you miss it, please don't yell at me. LOL. Or if you leave at 3 without seeing the Thunderbirds and they fly at 4 -- same thing. Don't yell at me. Okay? Just get there as soon as you can and stay as long as you can. You won't regret the time you spend there, on Armed Forces weekend.
Does anyone know where else on the internet I can get more info on the upcoming air show? I want to clarify the times as well
www.fortsmithairshow.org
That'll get you parking and security information, as well as a downloadable map of the air show grounds. If the air show boss does decide to release at least an order of events, it'll be posted there.
I'm in a Wheelchair and can't use the buses. Is there any close parking at the Airport? Also where can I get a list of events?
www.fortsmithairshow.org is a great resource. You'll see a downloadable map of the air show grounds. On that map to the south just a bit is a parking area designated for those with handicap accessible permits. Hope the information helps.
What time are the Thunderbirds expected to perform?
As with every other question about times and order, I offer up a disclaimer -- weather, mechanical issues, other factors MAY cause the order and times to change one way or the other.
That's why so far schedules and orders of acts have not been released. Even the air show committee members only have a rough idea of who performs when. The air show boss and his team will put the finishing touchs on the schedule while we're snug in our beds the night before.
Typically, the Thunderbirds perform last. That could mean anytime between 2 and 4 they could fly. Just depends on the weather and a host of other things.
Does anyone know roughly when/if the stealth fighters will be flying?
The military act situation was pretty fluid this morning. Most military teams are doing static displays only. I did not see stealth aircraft on the ramp today. Then again, aren't they supposed to be stealthy? :)
Seriously, come on out tomorrow. See what you can see. Sunday's act -- weather and equipment permitting -- will be substantially the same as Saturday. You can come back and catch the Sunday show. :)
Does anyone know when the air show ends Saturday night?
