 <title>Central Business Improvement District of Fort Smith</title>
 <link>http://thecitywire.com/node/397</link>
 <description>&lt;p&gt;The Central Business Improvement District was established in the late 70&amp;#39;s. Due to the mass exiting of commercial businesses to urban sprawl to mall locations, so many properties within the urban core of Downtown Fort Smith, like so many other Downtown&amp;#39;s accross the country were left to deteriorate. BID&amp;#39;s or CBID&amp;#39;s were introduced to be a driving force to encourage the redevelopment of Downtown&amp;#39;s. At one time vacant properties were the majority in Downtown Fort Smith. Due to a steady growth pattern which has been in place since the tornado in the late 90&amp;#39;s much progress has been made within the boundaries of the CBID. There is a tremendous amount of work still to be accomplished, however a consistant amount of private and public improvements are made each year. &lt;/p&gt;
